Our eco notice board has really developed over the year and now has lots of information. It is updated by eco teams.
We love to read in Strontian Primary School, fiction and non fiction - here is a selection of the books eco teams have displayed. Some of them are full of ideas and we hope to do lots of new things next year.
We have been trying to reduce our electricity use and one idea a member of eco teams had was that every time a bathroom light was left on you ticked a box and turned them off. We are definitely all getting much better at remembering to turn them off already. We will keep monitoring this.
This year for our Mod song we made a conscious decision to not buy new costumes, instead we asked parents and families to see if they already had stuff we could use.
We love playing outside. Here are P1-4 on a trip to see Kilchoan Primary School children in the play park in Kilchoan. It is good to meet up with our friends in other local small schools. P1-4's trip this summer was to The Funny Farm in Kichoan. We loved seeing the animals and learning about them. Thank you @thefunnyfarm For more info click here - https://www.thefunnyfarm.info/www.thefunnyfarm.info/ This year we decided that to raise money for school funds we would do a sponsored walk. We all walked over 8k and raised nearly £600!! It was such a hot day but we cooled down near the river, took shady breaks and kept drinking water. We really enjoyed it and the midgies mostly stayed away.
We used lots of different recycled things to paint our wildflower paintings. As the ferry has been off for ages our teachers and Alan Gray, the Active Schools Coordinator, organised a minibus each side of the foot ferry to save fuel. Every little bits helps.
We used an art project to look at the diversity of wild flowers and grasses in our school grounds. We were amazed at the wide variety. On our last well being heroes day with Helen, from Ewen's room, we went outside and created some art to explain what we have learnt. Please watch the video below to see what our P4's had to say... This year Sports Day was hosted by Kilchoan Primary School in Kichoan. To save fuel and be aware of our carbon footprint we all organised to go in cars together so there were hardly any spare seats.
Lots of us go to Beavers and Cubs on Wednesdays in the village. We always let everyone know what we are up to and this week we made our promises!
Pupil Council met and discussed lots of fundraising ideas. We decided to keep it local and do an eco friendly fundraiser and went to ask Mr Millar-Craig if we could do a sponsored walk. He agreed it was a good idea and said we should get in touch with Forestry to check if it was ok to do the Ariundle loop. Thank you to Forestry and Land Scotland for agreeing.
We found a toad today and put it safe near our bug hotel. He loved it and crept in to the dark straight away. We are making the most of the amazing weather and doing as much as we can outside at the moment...including playing!
We don't just stick to Outdoor Classroom Days to take our learning outside. Our young leaders are recording volunteering hours. They sometimes lead activities at lunchtimes. This was so fun! We love being outside together. We absolutely love reading in SPS our quiet reading after lunch every day is a very important and protected time of day. As much as possible we go outside for this and find a comfy peaceful spot.
